Two Government Departments In Leeds To Relocate

The Highways Agency (an executive agency of the Department for Transport), and the Government News Network (the regional arm of Government Communications serving the English Regions, Scotland and Wales), of the Government Office for Yorkshire and The Humber, are expected to relocate under a single roof in the Lateral Building at Sweet Street, Leeds. A £29 million agreement for the next 15 years, has been signed by the two government departments. A staff of 700 is expected to be accommodated in this building.

The new offices offer modern facilities and are expected to run in a very cost effective, and energy efficient, way. At present, the Government Office is split on two different sites, and the coming together is expected to benefit the functioning.

The relocation happened after the appointment of Drivers Jonas - the oldest established firm of chartered surveyors – as project managers for the relocation within the city center.
