Curbing Bad Behaviors Through ASBOs

An ASBO – an anti-social behavior order - is a civil order used to protect communities from behaviors of individuals that cause harassment. Since its introduction in April 1999, ASBOs have been used by the police and local authorities, and have brought much respite to communities by curbing bad behavior.

According to the latest statistics published by the Government, 56 per cent of the ASBOs have been issued against adults and 41 per cent against juveniles. According to Home Office Minister, Tony McNulty, ASBOs work, as the local authorities have been able to use them to good effect by reducing bad behavior and bringing respite to communities.

ASBOs are just one of the many ways the government uses to tackle anti-social behaviors. An anti-social behavior order imposes restrictions on persons who have behaved in an anti-social manner. The court satisfies itself beyond reasonable doubt of the criminal burden of proof, before making an order.
