The just announced £382 million capital funding for the Primary Care Trusts (PCTs) represents an increase of 30 percent over last year’s allocation. This is in addition to the £750 million over five years for new community hospitals that was announced last year. This extra funding is expected to be welcome by the National Health Service (NHS). The details announced by Andy Burnham – the Health Minister – included £60 million for the modernising of dental surgeries. This will enable the PCTs in establishing new surgeries for the dentists, and in upgrading the existing ones. The funds are further split with £167 million as operational capital to maintain and modernise PCTs’ building stocks, and to replace equipment; and with £156 million as strategic capital for funding of PCTs new equipment and buildings. The Minister said that the funding will help communities by providing better facilities and more sophisticated equipment. |
